    Possibly damp outside wall

Thanks - hopefully the wall will stay up if I replace some more bricks and I’ll live to post the results. Surprised not to see lots of cavity wall insulation and hopefully I’ll see it when I clear some of the rubbish out the way. Good shout on the wall ties - will watch out for that.

    Possibly damp outside wall

Thanks all - should be possible to get the rest of the rubble out if I take another brick or two out and drop the level of the pebbles down. It is a cavity wall. Only other thing I’d say is that if I feel up from where I took the brick out, I can feel what seems like rough mortar that has set...

    Possibly damp outside wall

Here is a picture with a few parts annotated. Must admit I’m at a loss as I expected the cavity to be pretty wet/damp and it wasn’t. No water comes out the weep holes and nor can I see any water pooling on the drive even when it’s been raining really heavily. Had a look at other posts mentioned...

    Possibly damp outside wall

Hi- I’ve taken a brick out and there was a fair bit of rubble in the cavity - could this explain the damp on the outer wall? We had work done of the roof gable end directly above the area that is damp so could they maybe have put some rubble down the cavity? the pictures below are before I took...

    Possibly damp outside wall

Thanks all for the advice - will take a brick or two out as suggested to have a decent look at what is going on.

    Possibly damp outside wall

Hi- you are right, block and beam might be a better description - I guess it is suspended as when we had a water pipe moved in the kitchen they cut a channel in the floor and there was a void underneath so wasn’t solid. The dpc is directly above the vents so there is one course of bricks on...

    Possibly damp outside wall

It’s a suspended concrete floor and even when it’s been chucking it down recently I can’t see rainwater flowing in. I can also see through the vents and at least they are clear. I’ll have to have a look where the DPC is and will post up here. Does look like I need to dig out the stones between...

    Possibly damp outside wall

Thanks Ken - good shout - will have a look then. In theory it ought not be a problem as that wall is a gable end and hence no guttering above but maybe something is going on. As you say, it’s an odd pattern.

    Possibly damp outside wall

Hi-not sure if I am seeing a problem that isn’t there but what do you think to the photo below? We had the drive extended and in the process it has raised up in height - it used to be grass. There are a couple of air vents low down and I think there is a semi-circular area at the bottom that...

Block paving - rocking when driven on

Thanks all - it hasn’t been jetwashed - the sand between the joints (which was kiln dried) just seems to be falling down when the blocks rise up slightly. They seem a decent company so hopefully they will basically just do it all again to a better standard.

Block paving - rocking when driven on

Hi- I’m going to get the contractor back but any ideas what could be happening here so that I’m better prepared? Recently had a block paving drive extended and where I now drive, some of the blocks rock up/down slightly - this means that the sand then drops underneath so there are gaps between...

Cold top room - do I need to add to insulation board ?

Thanks - I’ll have to look properly tomorrow but there are two layers (at right angles) so prob between 200 and 300mm. I have got a few rolls spare so won’t do any harm to top up in the areas which currently have gaps - between the steel joists and the existing insulation.

Cold top room - do I need to add to insulation board ?

May be a bit of a simple question but our top rooms are often quite cold (three story house, built in 2003). Plenty of loft insulation and I've noticed that in some places the insulation board goes all the way up into the loft and in other places it falls short - hopefully the pics below show...

Leak around gable end of roof/chimney - does anything look amiss here ?

Just trying to get a roofer to come out to our 3 storey house as we have an intermittent leak up on the roof somewhere. Its on the gable end where we have a false chimney and it doesn't seem to happen all of the time - maybe its connected with how heavy the rain is or the direction its coming in...
