    Part P / BC question

If your not a qualified sparx you better get this checked out. I nearly lost out £200 odd on having some numpty come a access MY OWN WORK which I know was perfectly to 7671 having already absorbed BC notification fees. I'm acctually getting to the point where I think TT had a point! PART P...

    Part P / BC question

Today I was talking to some BC doughnut who was adamant I had to supply my own third party pir having had them turn down my own EIC. I told him this was ****** but now it looks like i'm half wrong. In any case, they will accept my EIC after seeing my 2381/2391 so it's all accademic. ps, some...

    Part P / BC question

Can someone remind me if it's still BC's responsibilty to find a contractor to test any notified work a "diyer" might have done or is it the case that they can now insist the diyer has the pir issued at their own expense? Looking around it seems they still need to find a contractor but now they...

    Part P.... (grrr)

You could just not tell BC and get a PIR done after you have completed the work. Depends if BC already know about the conservatory. Personally I'm all for a bit of DIY but with out a proper test and inspect you will never get work to comply with 7671 no matter how hard you try.

    Part P.... (grrr)

If you tell BC before you start the work they are legally obliged to test your work to BS7671. This is, however, a rare thing indeed. Possibly. It really depends on the rest of your existing install. Yes. This would be notifiable work.

    Zones and surface mount trunking

Unless there is a strong need for mechanical protection there is no need to run the cable in conduit. Well, unless you want to for aesthetic reasons.

    SWA under paving slabs

Thanks. I'm not overly concerned with the regs in as much as I have 2381 and 2391 GN 1 to 7 bla bla ad nauseum. It's more whether anyone has any opinions on the subject.

    SWA under paving slabs

What's everyone's view about burying SWA in a channel directly under paving slabs? The job requires wiring a shed. I can get the cable down to the shed via the fence but there is a short hop from the fence to the shed. The shed is built on those .5 meter square inch thick garden paving slabs...

    My God

Does anyone know if that means that building regulation no longer applies to work done by a DIY'er in as much as work does not have be declared or backed by certification if the DIY'er sells the house?

Sup. bonding, need to be in safe zones or not?

Adam, sorry have just re-read your post and thought you needed to route the equipotential bonding rather than the supplementary bonding. To be honest with you I would work on the principle that they (both of them) do need to be routed in the "safe zones". I have read all of that chapter beyond...

    cable in the garden

There is no actual regulation to say you can't run it along a fence, although the cable does have to be protected so SWA is the way to go. Also, the fence does not have to be of "substantial structure", so it can be wooden. There is, however, guidance to say that outside lighting must be...

Sup. bonding, need to be in safe zones or not?

As promised... <sorry taken them out> Can you give me a shout when you have them 'cos I don't think the IEE are gonna be to wild about my breach of copy right. Cheers

    CU Location

I don't think there are any regulations per se but I believe standard procedure on new builds is to place the CU in a readily accessible location above the flood level. Reasonable provision must be made to stop children interfering with it and the top of the CU must be to IPX4 (which is...

    Oven & Part P

Have a look a this... http://www.niceic.org.uk/downloads/Pocket%20Guide%208.pdf ...particularly item 3 under "within a special location". Then look at foot note 4 that goes with item 3. I would therefore say you can replace your over but it must be identical. This could be interesting...

    SWA cable size

Your pushing the volt drop limit on 4mm for a 10 amp load of 75 meters. You would probably exceed it a higher load. Best to use 6mm or 10mm but can't really say for sure as I don't know your intended loading. I take it you know all about part p/testing/certifcation/earthing/cable...
