    Strip light question

Sorry guys but just a quickie. When I switch on the strip light in my kitchen, it lights up fine then within 3 -5 seconds, it goes out again. I've tried changing the starter but that doesn't make any difference. Can I just assume it's the bulb and simply replace it or is it something more...

    Potterton Netaheat 10/16

My decorators removed one of my radiators yesterday to plaster skim the wall behind it. They put it back on today and now I don't seem to be able to get any hot water. I mean the boiler comes on when I switch it on but it only stays on for around 5 minutes and there's absolutely no hot water...

    Trunking problem

I'd very much like to get rid of the unsightly trunking containing electrical wiring that seems to be EVERYWHERE in my hallway. I guess I know what needs to be done but I need to know how to make sure it's safely done and not going to cause me any problems later on. Do I just hack out the...

halogen downlighters - Reinforced concrete ceiling

i've tried finding a topic that covers this but I've had no luck so . . . My ceiling is made of reinforced concrete. I've just had it skimmed. I want to know if there is any way I can get the halogen downlighter effect without buying those awful rail lights. I'm happy to have a kind of false...

    New Ceiling Skim

Just had the skim done on my ceiling. It's drying nicely so far and I'm planning on continuing my redecoration programme this coming Saturday. I've heard from more than one apparently savvy building types that once a skim is dry, you should give it a coat of PVA, allow that to dry and then...

    plastering problem

I've just replaced a wooden access panel in my concrete ceiling with 0.5 inch plasterboard. I'm wondering whether I've screwed up becuase there are a couple of half inch gaps between the edge of the plasterboard and the concrete where the old plaster fell out. Will the plasterer be able to...

Gluing wood battens to concrete ?

I need to replace the ancient battens in a concrete recess in my ceiling (the water mains run through it). It's only 12 inches wide by 6 foot long and I'm going to cover the recess with 1/2inch plasterboard. I'm then going to plaster over it for a smooth finish prior to painting. Can anyone...

    plastering problem

Thanks for your advice. Another mate has told me to take down the wood and replace it with plasterboard as there's no way on God's green earth the pipes are going to drip condensation on it as they've been SERIOUSLY lagged and insulated. Then a plaster skim ready for painting. Hope it works ...
