    Finishing off Wall under Window

Is a window board an internal window sill? Or a specific item? Just Googled it and they seem to be MDF. With PIR on top taped that should still be fine right? Wickes do a uPVC Window Facia board. That similar? I can't foresee much moisture coming up or condensation getting in either. Thanks

    Finishing off Wall under Window

No, just an illusion! Exact same location just different angles. It's 1 Window. PIR to Window and across Wood right? Not sit it in cavity? Thanks

    Finishing off Wall under Window

What would be the best way to finish off this low wall under my window? I was thinking of Plasterboarding the front wall itself, but what can I do with the top? Can I just put a uPVC Window ledge on? Thanks

    Insulating Reptile Room Floor

Hi all, Quick question I hope someone can answer. I have laid all of my insulation down in my room and got the floor all level. How do I finish it off now? Do I need a Vapour Barrier or DPM before the floor boards or do they sit straight on the PIR Insulation (Kingspan)? I have a DPM below...

    How to finish flooring OSB3

I am about to create a floating floor using OSB3. I like the look of what people do with clear coating it, making it glossy and apparently stronger/longer lasting. Now this is inside an out building that will have fairly high humidity. Not silly levels, but constant 60-70% Am I better of just...

    "Floating Floor"

Because I have 0 experience and the likelihood of me getting a good result is low. Working with wood is far more forgiving and I can test it and move it if needed.

    "Floating Floor"

Hi all, After amazing contribution to other questions I am now looking at sorting the floor in my room. The floor is quite a lot out from end to end, so I was intending to DPM the concrete then building a frame around the perimeter and adding beams with Celotex between before VCL and OSB /...

    Breathable Membrane Question

I'm not 100% sure Deluks. I have no signs of water being in the cavities currently, and 1 side of the building has another out building with a roof built on to so that wall is 100% sheltered, the other end has a wood store up 50% of the wall, again fully covered with a roof etc, and the back...

    Breathable Membrane Question

It is sitting between the external wall and the first layer on PIR insulation inside a stud wall. Preventing anything getting to studwall timber or my insulation. So brick wall > breather membrane > studwall with PIR taped > more PIR taped over top > VCL > Plasterboard. This is not correct...

    Breathable Membrane Question

Oh and whilst I'm asking.. Is something like this suitable https://www.wickes.co.uk/Easy-Trim-Grafter-100gsm-Integrated-Breathable-Roofing-Membrane---20-x-1m/p/144021 Or shall I play safe with https://www.dupont.co.uk/products/tyvek-housewrap.html? Thank you again, you guys are seriously...

    Breathable Membrane Question

Hi, When installing a breathable membrane on the back of studwall, are you supposed to come our from behind the studwall and go over brick pillars to seal it fully. If I only apply it to the studwall, the gap between the brick wall and the timber will still have a gap. Also, at the floor...

    Cavity Wall Vent Positioning Question

I have just watched this video... At 6 minutes he states that you should build a wall 50mm off the wall as it is single skin. Is this guys simply doing things incorrectly? I intend on working on it this weekend, but right now, my head is simple exploding. Those of you who do this...

    Cavity Wall Vent Positioning Question

Thanks. OK so is this my plan... Just so I have it straight in my head. Step 1 - Attach some DPM to the inside wall, overlapping a bit of roof and floor. Should I use Liquid type first on wall, and overlay that with pondliner type? Any advantage to both? Step 2 - Put my stud wall back in...

    Cavity Wall Vent Positioning Question

Not that I can see. Seems to be fully dry but I have only been checking over the last 4 weeks since I moved in to the property. I can see a standard damp proof layer 2 bricks from bottom. I presume that's it? OK so it sounds like I need to take it apart and start again if the cavity is an...

    Cavity Wall Vent Positioning Question

Thanks. I do not really have full access to the whole outer wall. It backs on to a neighbours garage with little to no gap. An extraction fan inside is a brilliant idea, and I can absolutely do this. The vivariums themselves hold enough humidity, normal room humidity levels of 50 - 60% are...

    Cavity Wall Vent Positioning Question

Yes it is. It was originally used as a little workshop by the previous owner. I am converting it to a reptile room, but struggling with just about everything! .. But it's great fun learning. I just feel stumped as to what to do, take it all down and start again, or something else. Thanks for...

    Cavity Wall Vent Positioning Question

Right... Given this am I better off taking down what I have done? I have framed the whole room. I have just measured the cavities, and they are unfortunately not even. Some are 40mm some 50mm. So I would have to dissemble and rebuild. I'm not against it if it's the right thing to do. This is...

    Cavity Wall Vent Positioning Question

Really? But everything I have seen online says having a cavity is best practice. If you Google typical timber construction, every single result says the same about a vented cavity of approx 50mm. So this has really confused me now.

    Cavity Wall Vent Positioning Question

Hi, Background (Single brick wall, 50mm air gap, stud wall with 75mm PIR - Used as a Tropical Species Reptile Room, so highish humidity potentially.) I am after advice on where to place vents for my cavity wall. Does it even matter? I have read I need 1 vent per 2msq? I have built a stud...

    Wall insulation advice

Hi all, After getting some great advice from the roofing community, it is sadly time I try and pick your guys brains. I was originally looking to cold roof insulate my out building and have built an internal stud wall 50mm from the single brick wall. The intention was to allow air to flow...
