Changing light switches and plug sockets

Hi all, I have several light switches and plug sockets in my house that I would like changing. Im I right in thinking that this doesn't have to be done by a qualified electrician, but has to be checked by one? Also, is it easy to for the average person to do? Is it as simple as changing a...

How much hassle do plasterers get from customers?

Assuming that you do a good job and are tidy etc, how much trouble do people get when doing plastering jobs privately? I mean things like, the customer being too picky "ie complaining about even the smallest imperfection that you need a magnifying glass for), being unhappy about the mess...

    Much work for plasterers?

Thanks for the reply. I work in an unrelated job so yes I could only plaster on weekends and in the evening. Basically I did a 12 week plastering course and since then I've plastered quite a few of the walls in my house and I've done a couple of jobs for family members, so I'm still fairly...

    Taking off existing plaster?

Hi all, If you get a job to plaster a room because the existing plaster is old with lots of imperfections would you ever take off the existing plaster or is it always ok to to just plaster over the top? Also is it generally best to use plasterboard over existing plaster, because it is...

    Skimming slightly uneven wall

hi all, If someone asks you to do a skimming job where the wall has lots of divots and they want it to be nice and smooth, what would you do if the wall wasn't completely flat because of areas where it bulges in. Would you try and fill these areas with the finishing plaster while you are...

    Difference between rendering and plastering

Thanks for the reply. So where would you use render inside a house then? Wouldn't you always use bonding or plasterboard directly on inside bricks? Or would using bonding on bricks inside the house be described as rendering?

What type of plaster for skimming?

Hi all, I want to skim the walls of my living room because there's so many divots and holes in it, it is taking forever to fill them all with polyfill and then sand them down. What type of plaster will I need for this? Can I just use single coat stuff from focus? Thanks.

Putting trim between bath and wall tiles.

Oh I didn't realise I should put silicone between the bath and wall first. I've already put the trim on.

Putting trim between bath and wall tiles.

Another problem that I have is that because the walls are not very straight, there are some gaps here and there between the edge of the bath and the wall tiles. So if I just use sealent on its own then I won't be able to get a nice even line of sealent and I'm worried it won'tl look very tidy...

Putting trim between bath and wall tiles.

Why is that? The trim is specifically sold as a bath trim. I wanted to use it because I think it looks neater than only using sealent. It does say to use silicon sealent on the top and bottom of the trim though(where it meets the bath and the walls) to make a watertight seal. Cheers.

Putting trim between bath and wall tiles.

Hi all, I've finished tiling my bathroom walls and I've put some trim where the walls meet the bath. The trim has a strip of sticky material on the bottom of it which i used to stick it to the bath. The problem is that because the wall isn't completely flat, there are areas along it...
