Do lights with emergency backup fail faster than normal ones

It's the 1 ballast for both lamps. Could I just be unlucky and the 1st fitting I change the electronic ballast on has another fault. I'll try changing the ballast in another fitting and see if that one works. I am just struggling to get my head round how 7 of these fittings are all out, and...

Do lights with emergency backup fail faster than normal ones

Yes they're meant for 55w. Only 1 of the lamps is powered by the battery, with both lamps on normally. I just don't want to end up changing everything, when tbh I ain't sure of the issue.

Do lights with emergency backup fail faster than normal ones

I've been back to the job today and I have to admit I think I've got it wrong, I always get confused with ballasts with emergency back ups so abit more help may be needed. Better description - all the problem fittings are PL-L type lamps 2x55w, with an electronic ballast and a separate...

Do lights with emergency backup fail faster than normal ones

Hi, I had a look a job last week where numerous fittings had failed. I don't know how long they had been off, but I presumed they had all gone over time. All the fittings (7x) were 55w PL type lamps with emergency backup. There didn't seem anything wrong with the ballasts. The store had a...

Using old Rubber Cables on a new rewire!

I tested the cable today and the IR reading was 3Mohms, which may pass now but probably wont for much longer, so I've told them its too dangerous to leave in, (don't wont a 3Mohms reading on a complete rewire). But as a comprimise i've spent around 3 hours today getting the cables to the wall...

Using old Rubber Cables on a new rewire!

Don't think its VIR (doesn't it have cotton round the outside?) Not done any tests on it yet, as I wasn't sure if I could use the cable. It does have an earth. Can't chase down other side of wall as it joins next door.

Using old Rubber Cables on a new rewire!

yes I did, as all the other lights/switches etc have metal capping i've been able to save chasing most things by using this or by chasing down in other adjoining rooms.

Using old Rubber Cables on a new rewire!

Hi, I'm in the middle of a rewire. The property is occupied and I've been doing my best to not make a mess of decor etc. The main room they didn't want any damage to was their lounge which I have managed except for two wall lights. The existing wiring is all rubber cables installed in the...

Thanks for the replies, alot of things I didn't realise/overlooked. I've spoke to owner breifly who says the local fire officer has fallen out with him and won't come into the building.....after hearing this i've told him to just get a dedicated fire alarm company to come and size it all up...

what type of fire alarm system is required?

Hi, I personally don't deal with fire alarms much except the odd additional sounder etc. but i've been asked as a favour for advice on a prroperty a friend owns. The property is a funny set up. It is an old building which did have lots of individual rooms for offices. Now however it is as...

Wiring a 16A oven into a ring main

no not what i wanted to hear, but its what i thought. I was told it was having an electric hob and 1 plug in oven, so I'm going to blame it on the kitchen designers when i give my news to the customer. Cheers

Wiring a 16A oven into a ring main

Hi, I'm just checking if there is anyway round the following problem. I've been altering some electrics in a kitchen (moving sockets etc) and whilst there the kitchen fitters were putting in 2 ovens into the cabinets, which they were just going to plug in. I checked the ovens and they both...

    Am I being ripped off?

Hi, I unfortunatley bumped into a car in my van which caused the towbar to press the bumber alittle which caused the sides of bumper to pop out a mm or two. I said i'd just pay for repair, thinking at most a partial new tow bar. But the guy has come back saying it need a totally new tow bar...

    apprenticeships are like gold dust

My younger bro got an plumbing apprenticeship by asking plumbers if he could do some work experience with them for free for a few weeks. The second one he did this for liked him and took him on...worth a try. These aren't in liverpool but heard they were taking on either apprentices or...
