    Cannot lock windows

Sounds like a faulty mechanism to me. Can you post a photo? ************************

Double Glazing Window Handles and Locks.

I run a window installation company, and a window manufacturing company. I can confirm that most companies in our industry do not offer a transferrable guarantee, as the guarantee normally remains with the person who bought the windows, rather than the property. Do you have a copy of the...

Hammer Fixings, setting blocks and Packers

If you're in the Caribbean, I'll nip some over :D Otherwise, I've used upvc strips (architraves) and cut them down to the same size as packers. Not sure if you can get hold of stuff like that. Good luck.

    Tyical conservatory price

£8K for a 3 x 3 sounds like a sensible price to me. Be very careful if you find a company doing the work for much less - check them out properly. Conservatory Companies selling conservatories for around the £5K to £6K mark don't tend to last very long. They build up credit with...

    Double glazed units

Open your window and measure the frame width (inside to outside). Then measure the distance from the inside of the glass to the inside of the frame. Then measure from the outside of the glass to the outside of the frame and take those two measurements away from the overall width to give you...

    misty windows

I'm in the business and I've never heard of this. If a window has misted up inside it needs replacing. There's no way of fixing the problem as the sealed unit is fixed together. I'd be gobsmacked if this was possible.

where does this trickle vent go ?

Looking at the image, I'd say there's no need to take the glass out. It just needs screwing on (but take the protective film off first). The manufacturer really aught to have fitted these in the factory!

fitting windows with cavity anchors for a fragile outerskin

They're called fixing cleats. They're basically strips of steel with holes in - you screw into the side of the frame, then stick your frame in the masons opening and fix through further holes into the internal walls. The problem is whenever anybody tries to replace the frames in the future...

Hammer Fixings, setting blocks and Packers

Hi In relation to your questions: 1. Hammer Fixings go through the frame and wall. You might be better with 125 or 150mm long. 2. Yes, this is true. Some of our fitters use them successfully. 3. Bridge Packers are designed for sitting in the drainage channel at the bottom of the...

French doors - fixed open setting

Most uPVC French Doors do not have this facility, but you can buy French Doors with restrictors which can be designed to only open to a certain position. I could recommend a company in Solihull who may be able to help you called The Window Centre. You can find their details at...
