Can I use overflow pipe as en-suite bathroom sink waste

Yes it is a room divider, I will cut away 1.2m high of plasterboard from the floor so I planned to double up the stud as much as I can and then add almost a full plasterboard sheet back on the wall. If it turns out to be 70mm stud (which i hope it will be) then maybe 35mm will be ok. Maybe I can...

Can I use overflow pipe as en-suite bathroom sink waste

Not recommended because of risk of blockage or reduced flow (or both) or something else I am not thinking of!?

Can I use overflow pipe as en-suite bathroom sink waste

I have a small ensuite in the eves of a town house which has a sink waste which currently is boxed in and looks awful. Toothpaste is about all that goes down the trap. Thinking to run the waste + hot/cold feed through a couple of studs and then in to a large accessible void which is where the...

Solar PV on garage - possible with this?

Sorry for silly question time... Does that mean the feed goes to the meter or still to the CU in the house? If it goes to the CU, the CU in the is full. Does this swicthfuse need then a new CU in the house? I appreciate a electrician will need to inspect and confirm, but this is about judging...

Solar PV on garage - possible with this?

So questions I would have please: 1, Can I run a new armourmed cable just under soil/pebbles attached to gravel boards and then finally under a sand laid slab just outside the kitchen back door, up 0.5m and in to the house above the damp proof course? The pebbles can fill with water sometimes...

Solar PV on garage - possible with this?

Very clear and understood. Thanks. Arguably been useful over the years when I have needed to shut off electric in the garage but not affect the house. See below. House circuit diagram now Garage on left Same fence on left runs down side of house Where the kitchen utilty is and CU...

Solar PV on garage - possible with this?

Yes, it is 4kw system (roughly 7KVA) The ring main has maybe 15-20 sockets on it along with the garage. No extra cable and it is through mulitple rooms, no easy routing to add extra cable. Yes, I am down south. Seems a shame but this may make the garage idea a non-starter.

Solar PV on garage - possible with this?

My garage is 10m from the house and has south facing roof, my house does not! Had a solar chap around and he thought the garage would be perfect for a new installation, asked if the garage has it's own CU, which it does, a small one. After he left, it occurred to me that the Garage CU is...

Adding in ceiling PIR, is my diagram correct

Thanks, I will report back and let you know if it works or if the kids (or I) constantly leave the switch on!

Adding in ceiling PIR, is my diagram correct

It is a room with a window and there is always some light outside. Door probably shut, but as you walk in the room, door shuts again = fire door. PIR will be set to 30 seconds or more of no activity before switching off anyway. Also, adding in a ceiling pir was easy as i have access to joist...

Adding in ceiling PIR, is my diagram correct

Interesting comment.... I will report back as this would be a room where total darkness would occur, especially at this time of year!

Adding in ceiling PIR, is my diagram correct

Great thanks. The PIR is above the switch, it is a single switch, so if the switch is on, light will be on, if the switch is off, it will be the PIR. Reason I want the switch is it is a coat/shoes room so planning on having quite a short timeout on the PIR, but if for some reason someone was...

Adding in ceiling PIR, is my diagram correct

Did a search around but everyone asks a slightly different question so apologies if this has been answered before... Wanting to add a ceiling PIR to a room in the house but keep existing wall switch to override the PIR if needed. Will this diagram work to have either the PIR or switch (or both...

    hydraulic lime render

There are no rules concerning distance to non combustible walls but most manufacturers suggest around 100mm. This is more important for the sides than the rear but clearly the more airflow the better the efficiency. I don't have that luxury given the position of my pots from the rear wall...

    hydraulic lime render

Just had our fireplace rendered with hydraulic lime render? Having a multi fuel stove fitted. Probably a 20mm gap to back wall, 250mm gap on the sides. How important is it to use a breathable paint? Or can I get away with anything?

    Paint on lime render

Just had our fireplace rendered with hydraulic lime render, having a stove fitted. Ready to paint shortly, was looking at metallic copper paint by crown, but have read should use breathable paint. Two questions, what will happen if we use the metallic paint which I am guessing is not...

Garden 12v lighting - Type of cable

Have searched around but can't find a definitive answer, want to use 2 core 2.5mm2 cable to power some 12v garden spot lights, cable will run openly under deck, and around planting areas, probably buried. Can you use normal 2 core black PVC flex, or should i really be using rubberised stuff...

Advice needed: Attach plastic shims to joists?

Gaz, Could do but that means lifting up the frames rather than just sliding some shims under with some sticky stuff! Maybe your idea is just safer in long run.

Advice needed: Attach plastic shims to joists?

I am following this deck building guide which is simple, no concrete needing to be mixed plus I handily had 12 council sized concrete slabs I needed to use up... http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/static/how-to-build-a-deck
