Thanks for that space cat, 1 of the wiring faults I found was the lighting circuit had the switched live connected to the loop live in the 2 flo tubes in the kitchen which I corrected yesterday, checked polarity in the lights tested and then powered up ok. I have carried out a ramp test on the...

    RCD tripping

Thanks for reply. C/U 1 & 2 were wired at the same time, in 1998 I believe. The lighting circuits are all in C/U2 and seperate to C/U1. The main earth is not connected to a MET but looped across each C/U. Now you mentioned that "was the fault there before", when carrying out various other...

1.5mm twin and earth used outside

Can someone please settle this arguement. Next door has had outside lights fitted in south facing rear of house. Cable is T & E clipped direct to outside of wall. I informed neighbour that this work is notifiable, should not have been clipped direct but protected with conduit and certificates...

    Running cable to a shed

A spur off the ring main sounds like your only option. It must be RCD protected. This is a notifiable job so don't forget to tell your LABC.

    Which flex to power a 230V~AC, 1phase 0.18/012A fan?

use 3 core cable 0.75mm because fan may need an earth, picture not clear. Use sufficient length of cable to put 3 pin plug on. I only use crimps to extend cable as a last resort and definetly I don't use un insulated crimps. Even with heatshrink on the crimps I still woudn't trust them. It looks...

    Light not working: Help

Those voltages don't help much. Remove the light ceiling rose and repost what wires are in the rose and how many. This will help in what direction to send you in. In the switch there should be a red going into C and a black with a red sleeve on connected to L1. Have a look and come back.

To fit an electric shower...possible for an 'amateur'?

From the question you have asked it shows you are not competant to attempt this. It is a notifiable job and must be done by a part P electrician. Do not connect a shower to this spare fuse as it will only be a small fire that burns your house down, you will invalidate your insurance by causing...
