    Log Cabin Floor levelling

I can’t decide which flooring option is best for a 5m x 3m log cabin I have built. The cabin is laid on a 15cm thick concrete pad but the pad has a deviation of 10mm in places. There’s a bit of a hump in the middle as it chucked it down with rain as it was being poured and I didn’t get it...

Routing of lighting circuit in Loft

Can anyone please advise if it is acceptable to run a lighting circuit cable between Rafter Insulation Board and the Sarking Felt (1960s Bitumen type)? I have installed 75mm Ecotherm board between the rafters (which are standard 100mm) leaving a 25mm gap. I am considering running a 1.5mm...

Price to install floor joists in loftspace

Hi I have a quote to install approximately 12 5x2 joists into my loft space including covering with 18mm chipboard. The joists are to be hung from existing binders. The floor is part of a 'loft space' conversion. So no formal loft conversion. I have costed the material at approx...

Routing of electrical through an existing stud wall

I am redoing my bathroom that currently has the shower electrical feed routing up through the floor boards, loose along the underside of the bath and into the loft through the waste pipe boxing. As this also houses the hot water feed from the boiler in the loft I don't think its the best...

Electrical Connection for new combi boiler

My current boiler has power supplied from the Lighting Circuit. I am having a new combi fitted in the loft, is it enough to take a fused spur off the lighting circuit? Im guessing its not to code? Would I be better taking a fused spur off the ring main and into the loft?

Laminate Flooring - Expansion holes for kitchen base units?

I have now laid my nice new laminate floor in the kitchen ( Floormaster AquaLoc) The B&Q HOW TO guide tells me I need to not only have 10 mil expansion gaps around the room (which I have done) but also to cut circular holes out of the laminate where the Base Unit feet sit. Is this really...

What direction should I lay my laminate floor in?

I have read several opinions about the direction you should lay your laminate floor in, all seem to say lay in the direction of light for square rooms, and lay parallel to the longest wall in rectangular rooms or hallways. I can't quite decide about my kitchen/diner though. Its...

does my central heating pump have to be on to heat the HW?

I have a part gravity part pump system, does the CH pump have to be on for my HW tank to heat up? I have seen several explainations saying the tank being heated by convection. diagrams show a coil inside the tank which is part of the CH system. Does the CH pump therefore circulate hot water...

No Central Heating without HW being on at same time

I have recently replaced my old single channel timer with a 2 channel timer. when the CH comes on at a seperate time to the HW, the timer only activates the CH Pump and doesn't fire up the boiler. Any ideas? If I turn up and down the room thermostat it just switches the CH pump on and off.

Boiler not firing up when Heating Comes on.

I have just replaced my old Horstmann 423 Diamond timer control with a new Horstmann 425 Channel Plus control. The wiring diagram shows how to wire up for a two channel control. I currently have it set so the heating comes on at a seperate time to the hotwater, this is different to how...

Separate vent needed for Balanced Flue Boiler?

Hi. I am refitting my kitchen and there is a drafty vent next to my boiler. The boiler is a balanced flue type, my understanding of this is the air intake and exhaust gases are delivered through the same flue on the back of the boiler. Old conventional boilers had a seperate system which...
