Hi all,
I’m planning a change to the kitchen in my Victorian terrace, knocking through into the old single storey extension/bathroom at the rear.
I’m looking to install bi-folds in the rear wall. The wall is only 2500 x 2200 and currently houses a window 1200 x 900. The budget is tight, so...
After a bit of advice. We've had 4 builders round to quote on the following work and only one has got back to us with a price of 3k. I was expecting 1.5 to 2k based on my estimates of materials and time:
- use electrician to move internal double socket 400mm to side (£150?)
- divert single...

I need to remove and replace two lintols above upstairs windows and was wondering if this could be done from inside, rather than using a scaffold. With access outside using ladders only to remove bricks and replace them afterwards.

Afternoon guys,
I am opening up an old chimney breast that was blocked up years ago. The reason is twofold - ventilation (it wasnt vented!) And decoration.
The new opening will be 400mm wide x 600mm high which is smaller than the original so I'm only knocking out 'infill bricks' and not any of...

Chimney sits on the concrete and continues through rest...
Afternoon all,
I'm looking for some advice on how to increase the side of my fireplace. However looking up my chimney the stack takes a 45 ish angle towards the right.
How would I go about raising the height of my fireplace opening? As I see it I'd be able to raise the front of the fireplace...
Hi,
We have a 1970s bungalow, the gable end seems to have an issue with the original steel window lintels having rusted.
One window has a gap in the pointing of about 12mm where the bricks have raised all the way along.
The other window has a door as well so a bigger span, gap in pointing at...

As you can see the pad stone bearing (in yellow box) for lintel is 115mm instead of the minimal 150mm required.
However, this is structural engineer's calculation, building inspector is happy with it.
So maybe the rule isn't quite "150mm" length of the bearing but the actual area, maybe 15,000...
