The previous owner of our house must have painted the wall in some sort of semi gloss latex paint. When scuffed in the move we noticed it’s easy to scrape off.
Not sure what to do as scraping a hall to landing floor is a big job. Do you think I could prime this with something?
Hello,
I’ve recently moved into a 300-year-old cottage which, due to its age, does not have a damp course. Before I moved in, there were no visible signs of damp on the paintwork. However, within days of repainting the walls, several dark patches have started to appear—particularly on the walls...
Hi,
A couple of doors in my house look like this:
I am painting rooms and not sure what to do to make these look okay? I can see old bits of plaster and wallpaper in the gaps and then towards the top I can't do anything because it becomes too thin.
Ideally looking for a cheap and easy...
Hi All,
I wonder if someone would be able steer me correct after some advice to took with decorating has gone a bit wrong.

Hi everyone, I've tried to read as many past comments on this as possible, but am struggling to find a definite answer!
Long story short I installed new ducting for a kitchen extractor fan. There is a small gap around the edges that needs to be filled to stop warm air getting into the loft...
Hello! I’m very new to this, so if this has been asked 1000 times I am so sorry!
I just got my new flat with my partner and we are wanting to paint matte over the already silk walls.
I have started sanding, but I can’t get it totally smooth.
When sanded, there are still some wee bits coming...
I've recently had these tiles installed, and would like to smooth the top somehow so I can then paint the top the same colour as the wall (I do not want to use tile trim). The tiles are quite 'rugged' hence the jagged line.
I've applied primer. What's the best product / process for smoothing...
Hi all
I've read loads of people recommending Screwfix no nonsense trade bare plaster paint, and I would like to use it myself. However, it's not in stock anywhere! For the same price you can get Fortress Trade matt emulsion bare plaster paint from Screwfix. Does anyone know if this is a simple...
Hi everyone
I'm in the process of filling holes and sanding walls before repainting. One thing that I am coming across is there are areas where the old paint is peeling showing the plaster (see photo). I started to use a little scraper to scrape it and the more I scrape... the more that comes...
Hello - I’ve recently painted wooden panels of
a bay window white. Used x2 coats of zinsser 123 primer / stain killer and x2 dukux satinwood. It needs a final coat, likely with wooden roller, to even put some patches.
I’m not sure I like the blue undertones in dukux satinwood all white. Is it...
Hi there,
Please can I get some advice.
I accidentally scuffed a brand-new painted wall in my home, after we ran out of the Dulux shade of paint that was used to paint the wall.
I didn’t think I would need much more to fix it, so I bought a small tester pot of the same colour.
However, when I...
Hi,
I've got a problem with a layer of flaking plaster in this bathroom which I need to deal with before painting. See pictures.
I've scraped off quite a lot, to the point where the layer has become much firmer, and I'm wondering if there's a way I can feather in with some filler or...
I'm about to begin painting a newly built entertainment unit made from Medite (if relevant) MDF. What paints would people use, they'll need to be hard wearing as the kids will also use them for toys.
Thanks
I am trying to write a specification for re-decorating the inside of our Village Hall Annex in order to get quotes. it was built in 2010 and looking a bit tired and there is some settlement cracks, loose plaster around doorways and holes from recent plumbing and wiring changes including surface...
Hi, i’m attempting to re-plaster my kitchen and need some advice on the steps to do so. Currently the kitchen walls are a bit of a state, it used to have wall paper on however this was taken off many years ago. Now what is left on the walls is paint and (what i’m guessing is plaster) which is...
Hi all,
Our bedroom has dark grey walls and white ceilings. We want to paint both a soft white colour and achieve a uniform finish. We already have the paint (valspar v700) but I’m wondering if we should apply directly or apply some sort of undercoat first?

Hi All,
Please don’t judge me too harshly for wanting to paint some panelling within my home, it’s simply too dark in certain parts of the building. I would greatly appreciate advice on how to achieve a really high standard painted finish. I do not know what the panels are currently finished in...
