I'd first and foremost, likely get near to the border, or flee across it if the danger came close.
I'd spend a while trying to re-gather and see what the future holds and whether staying close to home is in our best interests.
I'd then look at where friends and neighbours have settled and consider the language aspect as well as looking at the perilous journey.

I'd prefer somewhere warm and welcoming, but Essex would be a good last resort. I doubt the refugees are lucky enough to be privy as the where the idiot Forrige and his riotous lackeys hang out.
