If you lived somewhere that was allegedly dangerous for you and your family to live in and the U.K. was the first safe country that you came to, would you leave your family there, in danger, and pay a trafficker to get you across the most dangerous shipping lane in the world and would you then keep going through numerous other safe countries until you got to the one with the best free benefits/healthcare/housing/education systems?
It is very difficult to know for sure what I would do. But if we all spoke French but no English and already had relatives in France, then I might consider making the crossing. France has a very similar package of support to the UK, so I don't think that would be a factor.
