Hi all,

Does anyone have any knowledge on the fundamental differences between ‘silicone enhanced’ and ‘full silicone’ renders?

Renderer recommended Johnstones, who do both silicone enhanced and full silicone. I thought I’d been clear with the builder that we were expecting full silicone, but came home today to find the renderer has done thei first section in ‘silicone enhanced’. Not too much of a problem as it’s only a loft section.

However the next phase is to render the entire side of the house. I’d asked for full silicone because it’s a period property and I want to maximise breathability (ideally I wouldn’t render at all, but it had previously been rendered with sand and cement - that’s been hacked off but we can’t restore the bricks so I figured I’d go for the most breathable option, excluding lime)

Can anyone shed any light on whether we’re right to ask for full silicone? Or are there advantages to using the ‘silicone enhanced’ version (aside from a small cost difference).

Will obviously discuss with the builder but keen for some impartial advice!

Thanks all.
