Contrary to what the bathroom changers say... that all modern boilers pack up in a few years. Viessmann have a 10 year guarantee. Alpha 5 years if you fit their jig with the cyclone filter on it, Potterton have 5 year guarantees to. Glow Worm is 2 years. Anyone know of other makers giving extended guarantees?

The Viessmann 10 year guarantee ONLY applies to their heat exchanger!!!

The boiler is only covered to 3 years which is extended to 5 years when its fitted by an approved installer.

Still a good guarantee. Would be nice to get a list of the makers and what they offer.

I was thinking about that 10-yr guarantee on the Stainless Steel heat exchanger.

So what are they guaranteeing? that the stainless steel won't rust? Wow

If it clogs up they will say not their fault.

....or hole. You appear not to like this 10 year guarantee. 99.99% of people would like it.

If it clogs up they will say not their fault.

Which is right. Provision to prevent blocking should be fitted and the system maintained. If you don't have a car maintained and at 2 years 11 months go to the dealers and give him a list of problems to fix, you know what he is going to say.

No, that isn't true. I have no objection to guarantees.

I think stainless is a terrific material.

But you wouldn't expect it to rust, corrode or perforate.

The exchanger can still clog (not covered)

It shouldn't hole unless there is a very hot spot, e.g. due to sediment or lack of water (not covered)

It seems to me that this 10-year partial guarantee is against something that won't happen, whereas the parts that are more likely to fail aren't covered by it.

Well, you've Googled everything else that you post on the forum, so what's stopping you this time?

well rather than look at garuntees, why not look at the expirience of the repair guys.

What boilers seem to give least hassle?(when the system has appropriate protection, ie magnaclean, proper inhibitor ect)

what other filters etc can you get similar to magnaclean that protect systems?

ive seen a few with the magnaclean where ive bled rads and got dark water out them :S

Did you clean the Magnaclean?

That's good.

You have been told why they do not cover that. If it clogs it is not their fault - it is the fitting and/or poor maintenance. Do you understand that?

It shouldn't hole unless there is a very hot spot, e.g. due to sediment or lack of water (not covered)

See above.

It seems to me that this 10-year partial guarantee is against something that won't happen,

..and they make sure it will not happen.

A Magnaclean is not a magic box. If debris is too heavy to sit in suspension and be circulated, then it won't leave the radiator and reach the Magnaclean.

There have been a few failures of welds on SS heat exchangers and some of the thin ones have holed.

The warrantee on the Viessmann is 10 years just because it is well made from thick metal.

Not only is it well made but its thick and smoothly curved so less likely to get clogged at sharp transitions.

Its a very good reason to fit those boilers even if the rest of the unit is pretty average.

Tony

i wil be interested to see if they will change a heat exchanger in 9 years, 99% chance that the faiure of the boiler will be down to dirty water and not covered, will the rest of the boiler last 10 years?

They say that they have never had one of those heat exchangers ever fail !

Since its only a curved rectangular tube its less likely to get blocked !

Like any HE it can get scaled up if the wrong water treatment or commissioning procedures are employed.
