To make life easier for a relative I propose to fit the above on some leads. Am I in order cutting off existing molded plugs and replacing with these please

Yes, but please make sure the moulded plugs are safely disposed of (fuse removed and/or pins bent)

FWIW, I have always used purpose-built plugs. They are not flimsy.

They also do not space the pins out from the socket; which was never part of the standard.
