If you were adding to an existing circuit (extending a ring or adding additional lighting points then would you need to add rcd to the circuits you have worked on under the 17th (assuming they are not mechanically protected/50mm deep ? or would this only apply to new designs...

also have been trying to book on 17th course however our college is booked for the foreseeable future and i came across a self study pack where i would just need to sit the exam (can go to a private centre but at £500 seems a lot for a three day course) just wondered if any one has tried this route and there opinion?

BS7671:2008 would apply to new installations, additions or alterations designed on or after the 1st of July 2008.
