Thoughts / advice much appreciated!

We are interested in buying a 1920s/30s bungalow where the attic space was converted into two bedrooms in the 1950s / 60s. It doesn't look like the ceilings have been touched since. My question is, what insulation, (if any) was likely to be installed back then, and what would be the best way to make the attics appropriately insulated today?

thank you!

Its impossible to say exactly what insulation is in there at current. Unless the current occupiers have recently had it upgraded you should assume it will be pretty rubbish/non-existent. Maybe you can have a look behind the dwarf walls or in the ceiling voids.

Upgrading depends on several things, unless there is particularly low ceiling height should not be a problem although may require replacement of the ceilings etc.

Thanks Freddymercurystwin that's helpful. Is it possible that the conversion would have used asbestos? I know that this can lurk in the most unlikely of places, but would it have had an application for insulating rooves?

thanks again

Don't know tbh, if you don't get a response in this thread post a new thread in the building section.
