My 1980's bungalow has bitumen solid floors throughout.

Does anyone know if the original builders would have put insulation in the slab when it was first built ? And a DPM ?

Was it a requirement in the '80's

I'm thinking of overlaying the floor with insulation sheets similar to the electric underfloor heating sheets and then overlaying with either ply & carpet or laminate.

But would be good to know if there's any insulation in the slab already

thanks

Its unlikely. They basically followed the construction techniques of the 1960s. The bitumen should offer a sufficient DPM. It was common under wood flooring.

There isn't an alternative to volume when it comes to insulation. Any thin sheet insulation wont make much of a difference.
