1996 escort 1600 ghia temperature sender unit

Hi

my wife has an intermittant fault with the temperature gauge.
i looked at the sender unit and all seemed ok no loose wires i could see however the fiddling about started it working, but is intermittant.

would you say the sender needs replacing and if so is this a simple task
or sould i look at wires,

any assistance would be apprecaited,

I did this on a 94 1.8 zetec. yes it is simple. I even got the sender from a regular motor factor - rather than a Ford dealer. I think it just unscrewed.

its worth pulling the plug off and inspecting the terminals for corrosion,it could just be a dodgy connection
