Hi

I've got to fit radiators to an extension. All the ceiling joists run perpendicular to run required runs. Ideally I'd like to use copper and run pipes in the centre of the joists. However, I cant see how I would do this? Any good advice?

Also, what is the best plastic system. I've been looking at Buteline and Hep2o.

Solder couplings between the joists. You might be able to feed copper through several at a time though.

Barrier pipe is essential if using plastic... the brands are much of a muchness, but avoid the non-demountable ones.

You can strain the copper some, to get it though 3 maybe 4 joists as above. So, you won't need a coupling between every single one. But I'd just go barrier in this instance - a lot easier and you can transfer to copper for in the walls.

Particularly if you go for copper, you may need something like this:

I use buteline and like it but if this is the only bit of plumbing you are likely to do it won't be cost effective for you to use Bute, you'll have to buy the crimp tool which will cost you £90.

Hi, I'm putting in about 25 radiators. So I don't mind buying the crimp tool.

Is Buteline easy to use? Did you have any leaks. I really like the look of it but am worried about it failing at higher temps.

No I've never had a problem with it but it can be awkward to get the tool in sometimes so you do have to plan ahead, you also need adaptors to get back to copper which will need soldering on.

Yes I've done loads, sometimes they do a starter kit that has the tools included or if you buy enough of it you get the tools for free.

I've been using speed fit for everything and had my first leak the other day, the o ring must have got out of place and it was hissing air after I turned on the supply (before I purged). I'd thoroughly recommend it as you need hardly any joints, however there are always a few places it makes more sense to use solder ring or whatever. But it doesn't make sense to me to use copper, unless you need a lot of joints and you've a lot of time on your hands.
