Hi, I stupidly thought it would be easy to wire a new light switch plate in my kitchen, and didn’t take any photos of where wires were supposed to go. Please help. I’m so out of my depth! I know I need to earth the new metal plate, but haven’t a clue where the wires go, and they are in old colours. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

edit: the blue, red and yellow wires all have tape on them. The other 3 are brown with no tape. If this helps. Thanks

No, I mean the other switch that operates the two-way light - need to see the other end connections of the red, blue and yellow wires.

AND

Was there a short link wire in the switch in the first picture?

Oh sorry! Yes here is the other switch, one light is for the kitchen same as other switch and then the other for a different room. There was no short link Wire in the first one. I know what you mean, I’ve seen it on another light switch. Thanks again.

The yellow will go in COM and the red and blue in L1 & L2, the same as the other end.

However, you do not seem to have enough wires in the original picture.

Did the lights work as they should?

Hmm. And no link wire in the original switch?? Are you sure??

As far as I can see, there red, yellows and blue from one cable, and there are three brown wires too? Is that right?

Hi, yes that is correct, 6 wires, 3 brown and one yellow, blue and red, they do work fine. And there was never a link, but I have other light switches in the same room that do have the link. Thank you all so much for your help, my dad called over and had a look, and thanks to your question about the other switch, he was able to work it out for me. Really appreciate the help guys.

Yes, of course, my angle is a bit awkward, but hopefully you can see. Lol. Thanks again, really appreciated the support.

I don’t know if the fact that I’m in Northern Ireland makes a difference or not? But I assumed the electrics were the same as the rest of the UK. All of the switches seem to be completely different, I have another light switch that only has brown wires, no other colour. But I’ve learned my lesson to label each wire as I take them out lol
