Hi Guys,

I made a complete hash of switching out a dud 2 gang dimmer switch for a new 2 gang dimmer switch, I forgot to photograph the connections and do them at once, some tape fell off and now I can't work out what is going on.

The switch that controls one set of lights works as it should, wasn't hard fixing that. However the one that controls the two is more difficult. It obviously has three wires and I can't work out how to wire it back up, not does anything have a label on it for what is what. There is tape on one with lets say a dash of blue, I coloured one red and left the other as brown ony (they're all brown). I tried putting them in all different positions and this is what I came up with.

Blue-Red-Brown - Counter Lights only
Blue-Brown-Red - Main Lights
Red-Blue-Brown - Main lights on/Counter off then Counter On/Main Off
Red-Brown-Blue - Main Lights
Brown-Blue-Red - Main lights on/Counter off then Counter On/Main Off
Brown-Red-Blue - Counter Lights on

This is the switch I am using. So above is L1-middle-L2

Any help?

Do you have a multimeter ?
One of the 3 conductors would be permanent live and you need to establish which one. The permanent live goes into the centre terminal ( with the wavy line),the other 2 would go together in L1.
I assume this is the only switch that controls the 2 sets of lights that you refer to ?

Thanks, I knew which one was live, just couldn't work out that two goes into one. All fixed.
