2 quick questions

1. Is it necessary to have boiler off when freeing the pin in a TRV?
2. Would a squirt of WD40 help to keep the pin free?

They may be daft questions, but important for me

A silicon-based lubricant is better as the chemicals in WD40 can cause the seals within a TRV to disintegrate.

Thanks. Being new to this bit of DIY, I felt it best to check.

Having taken the head off, I find it is broken. Part of the plastic which grips the brass nut on the valve has crumbled and the black 'sick' doesn't move when the dial is turned. The good news is that, without the head on, the radiator is now hot . Does anyone know if it is possible to buy just a replacement head part, or do I have to get in a plumber to replace the whole valve and drain down the system?

Most of the leading brands(Peglers, Drayton, Honeywell among others) will supply heads only.
