a retired friend has a dormer bungalow with double 2 way switches, at the top/bottom of the dormer stairs, serving 2 seperate inset lights in the dormer. 1 light works fine on either switch all the time, the other light comes on then starts flickering and goes off automatically after 5 minutes - ten minutes later it can be switched back on- then flickers once more. all the circuits are fed off 2 &1 cable, there is no colour identification (simply red/black) one red is cut back altogether and the flickering light has no earth connection into the lamp itself. can anyone offer advise ? help?

Might I suggest a problem with the fitting, not the switch?

Is the light fitting run via a transformer?

If so, is the tranformer getting too hot? (IE under insulation)

This will cause it to heat up, then the internal thermal trip will operate, and when it has cooled down, the light will come back on again or be able to be turned on again.

I'm not saying it isn't a switch problem, but from what you've described, it sounds like the above.
