Could anyone tell me if its possible to renew a cracked piston with the engine still in the car. And also does the cylinder head have to come off.Any help most appreciated.

If you can get the sump off probably and yes the head would have to come off as well. How do you know you have a cracked piston without removing the head?

Peter is bang on correct and the very best of luck to you mate...curiously enough, I have had this one before. The car had a misfire, which I incorrectly diagnosed. Popped the piston out and sure enough, cracked across the crown. Some of these engines had a pinking problem, hence the damage - but I wasn't to know that.
