My grand-daughter has her heart set on one of the above (her first car) and has asked me to look at one with her. Although experienced in repairing cars I know next to nothing about Renaults. What should I be looking for on a Clio? Thanks.

Due to electrical problems, the more basic the Clio the better.....if its the 8v engine (D7F) its quite strong but needs regular timing belt changes.
Thoroughly see that all the electrical systems work.
The ignition coils are weak, the front wheel bearings fail at around 80k.
Rust on the rear wheel arches can be a problem.
Look for water leaks in the boot area, yellowing headlamps may need renewing.
Go for a car that has an MOT, don't worry about brake and suspension work, so long as the rear axle hasn't seized.
The front bonnet lock has had issues with it self releasing, causing the bonnet to fly up
The plip locking can be a pain, but easily sorted, and do try to get both keys!
John :)
