Set off in the car one morning last week, chilly morning so put the heated seats on. After a few minutes my wife and I both smelt something burning so pulled over. Then noticed smoke drifting up over my right shoulder so switched engine off and jumped out of car. Found that the heated seat element had burnt a small hole in the leather and also my jacket.
Question being is it a DIY job to replace the element and has anyone done this? I can obtain a new element pad and am pretty handy where cars are concerned.

Well I received the heated pad and within a couple of hours had it fitted and working. I found it surprisingly easy, the hardest part being remembering the sequence of stripping down the various bits and pieces and then re-assembling them in the right order. Was a bit daunting at first as I had to remove side airbag and various springs and fasteners but all went ok and my bum is now warm again.
Thanks Mursal for the link which I found very helpful.
