Hi,

Spilt tea on the USB port in my Fiesta 2017 new shape, not been working for a week now.

Thought I would just remove it and get the part number, however upon popping it out the cables are so tight you can’t even get to it. Started trying to hack the plastic open but stopped myself. Can just about get my fingers in and touch the cable from the handbrake opening but not enough to unplug them. Am I missing something or have they just built it to be a pain!

Many thanks r

Thanks, what completely out? I know there is 2 screws at the front and back. Do you think I can just lift it up a bit rather than remove it. Why on earth did they just not put a bit of slack on the cable!

Depends if it gives you enough room. Not a job I have done often enough to tell you.

But you will fight, you will swear, and you will most likely inflict a cut or two on yourself

It looks like the top of the console may come apart.......but the chances of damage / screwdriver prise marks or whatever are very high.
John :)

Because car engineers/car accountants are ****

Yeah, I tried that earlier and an absolute nightmare, started to cause too much damage so stopped. Looks like I might have enough room to lift up the console a bit and get my hand under and then somehow unplug and replug the new one blind. Cheers Ford! Crazy they just couldn’t run the cable longer!

Thanks

Whilst I agree with the point about the cable being longer, it's all down to cost of production.

Just 1p per 1 item saved on 1 car mounts up when you make a million of them.

1p per item x say 1000 items in the car x 1M car sales adds up to a tidy figure, there's your answer.

Exactly the same reason national house builders seemingly skimp pennies on so many things.
