I have a 2D maintained EM light in my room which is not working in normal operation, but is still working in EM operation.
Could it be the lamp or the control gear which needs replacing.

Thanks

Well clearly the lamp works.

Has the light ever worked properly from its switched live supply?

The light has worked fine untill yesterday when the power was off for a bit, after the power was turnned back on the light was not working in normal operation.

Try the power off one more time with the functional switch off. Wait a few seconds then turn the power back on. Then try the func. switch.

Sometimes the electronic gear needs reseting.

now thats an easy one;

change the lamp!

make sure you change it for a four pin 2D 28 or 16 watt
do not use a 2 pin, it wont work.

as we change loads of these lamps over the years, the lamp will strike on the emergency as the frequency is higher and the cathodes will still emit enough energy to phosphorise the envelope.

but sticking the lamp from the mains via the switched mode side of the control gear it will generate a lower frequency that will not stick the cathodes.

so change the lamp and all should be well.

sorry for the tech stuff, but its so easy with high freq ballasted lamps

That's true in some cases but not all !

Check, there may be a starter if its switch/start control, this is out of circuit in emerg mode so the lamp would work, but not in normal mode

Thanks for all the replies, it turned out to be the lamp that had gone. Bought a new 28W 4 pin lamp on saturday and put it in the fitting, and all is working ok now.

Thanks
