Hi.

My younger sister has an idea of having a second chalet at my parents home.

This is just an idea at the moment, however, I would like it if I could be backed up on one thing I have tried to explain.

I don't know how big the proposed chalet is to be, but since there will be a socket and lighting circuit(s), she would also like an electric shower as well and perhaps an electric cooker.

Surely I am right in saying "For that kind of loading, a seperate supply with an electricity boards meter etc will be required"?

I have heard things like "Then she'll have to pay the standing charge" etc

But I have explained simply and clearly what I said above.

Could somebody tell me if I am right in what I am saying?

Many Thanks

You are almost certainly correct. There would be some circumstances where you might get away with it (parents house has gas hob, cooker, shower off combi etc) but for what is more or less a seperate dwelling you will need to have a new supply from the DNO.

If its readily available, a 3-phase conversion might be one way forward. Only one standing charge, one bill then. Feed house from one phase, chalet from another. Both can have 100 amp supplies this way.

Of course, do electricity suppliers still "do" standing charges???

HI.

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Like I said, I thought a seperate supply would be required.

The parents have an electric cooker (32A supply for it) and as for 3 phase, we live in a rempote area and supplied from a rather long overhead single phase supply.

My father years backed asked something about a three phase supply but was told it would have to come from a long way off etc.
