Hi there
I have purchased a Metabo Planer Thicknesser, Can anyone tell me how I will get power into it ouside the house. Soon to be workshop

it says so on the paperwork. it says operate on a power source matching 5 wire three phase outlets with neutral lead

I think some of the new part is

Some small motors are 230 volt delta and 400 volt star by changing the links you can convert to delta and run from a inverter which will generate three phase from a single phase supply.

However larger motors as 400 volt delta and 695 volt star being arranged that way to allow star / delta starting with these the cost of an inverter would be very high and unlikely to be a viable proposition.

There are rotary converters basic large motor driving a generator and these with a flywheel can sometimes better take the start load. But likely cheaper to change the motor for a single phase.

Getting three phase into a domestic dwelling is not always possible and where it is often very costly. Both in first place and with standing charge after.

Although motors can be changed as to voltage of course there is also the control side and you may need new transformers as well.

Although you can get inverters to supply 3 phase at 50hz these are far more expensive than the ones used on individual motors. Plus individual types also give soft start and speed control as well.

If you already have three phase what is the question? And if it requires 5 wire then likely control is 230 volt.

Also is the workshop part of domestic premises as it could be user Part P?

there's two fuse boxes.

[sarcasm]Oh well in that case you have a 3 phase 400 volt 50Hz 160 amp supply. You have 12 circuits, three of which are ring finals, three lighting circuits. [/sarcasm]

PLEASE GIVE US MORE TO GO ON!

A photo would be perfect! You can upload to this forum.

four photo's in the last message. one of the photo's is of aMetabo table saw for the same workshop
