A week ago, I ordered (not in stock) and paid for two shower corner surrounds £360.00. Today I picked them up from B&Q and purchased some white sealer, screws and some wood, £14.50. When I went to pay for the two said items, they wanted 5p for the carrier bag. Could not believe it, told the assistant to put the items back and that I would get them from Focus. Whic

B&Q just lost a good customer...

No, for the sealer and screws, not the units or wood. :D

It's to stop the bags going to landfill thus polluting the planet. You always paid for them in the past - they just added the cost to the item.

The supermarkets and diy outlets etc have been forced into it, its either regulate it themselves or be forced into regulation therefore incentives such as discount for reusing bags and paying for bags needed has been brought in, if we dont accept it then the government could ban them and you'll have to come up with your own ways of carrying goods.

One thing , although a logistical nightmare for them could be to leave their cardboard boxes and packaging that stock comes in lying around for customers to use, it would show they are doing their bit to recycle.

Bet it cost you more than 5p in the extra trip to focus

unless you now tell me they were on the same retail park and you walked

So, if I pay 5p for a bag, somehow it will not end up in landfill, amazing, how do they do that?

Now I will make all my purchases at Focus, free bag and I save 5p every-time I shop there.

Me old sainted Mother always said, "Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves." :D :D :D

If you shop at Focus you'll pay more for everything you buy. You'll be back in B&Q in no time - with your own bag.

Joe-90 is right.

On the other hand, Bee & Queue bathrooms and brassware are all carp anyway. :(

Why did you need a bag to take a tube of mastic and a packet of screws out to the car in the car park?

You could have used one of the free trolleys to transport the two items the 20 yards to your car, and then out of spite just left the trolley by the car space for the old guy to hobble over and collect

Next time you go to B&Q let me know and I will Paypal you 5p for a bag

This sort of thing is going to happen more and more, things we used to take for granted at one time but have to now stop and think about.

How does sticking plassy bags underground pollute the planet? It's all feckin rocks down there anyway.

I never get a plastic bag now, when I go into the supermarkets I take Ikea bags. They cost me 19p each and are excellent.

If I get offered a plastic bag & I have forgotten my bags I refuse them, put the good in the trolley & wheel it to the car, put the stuff in the bags in the car etc.

PLatic bags take an awful long time to degrade in landfill and those that don't get completely buried fly around our countryside & cause little furry animals problems :D

C rap

Their prices vary but it's swings and roundabouts. 5p for a bag that costs 2p to produce. You go pay it.

Bury them a bit deeper, then who cares whether they degrade or not.

It is not just the disposal of plastic bags that's the problem but the production of plastic that is also harmful. Jeepers!

That said, a true moron does need a plastic bag to transport stuff from one destination to another, even if it could be carried in ones hands.

Similarly yummy mummies need to transport children 250 yards to school in a high powered 4x4 just so that they can be seen stepping out of it in their latest, must have goat feather boots.

i brought some stuff at b & Q, paid for it on plastic, then i asked for a bag, thats 5p, so i asked can ipay on plastic, it must have cost them more for that transaction than the 5p they charged me
