We had our central heating installed last month and as far as we could tell all 6 were working. However, tonight I noticed the one in my sons room is not getting hot, even though the other 5 are roasting. What could be causing this? Thanks!

First things...

Have you bled the radiator?

I'm guessing it's a sealed system, if so, is the boiler at the correct pressure?

Does the radiator have a thermostatic rad valve fitted?

Cheers
Carl

Combi Boiler, I believe it is a sealed system. at correct pressure.

The rad was getting hot a few weeks ago and the kids havent been complaining of being cold at night, only checked tonight because of these gale force winds and I noticed it was a bit colder upstairs.

The rad has a valve on it with the numbers 1-5 and it is on 5. My rad which is closest to the boiler was on 2-3 and i turned mine up thinking maybe I was staving off flow to theirs which is next.

rads were all bled and hot less than a month ago, totally new system installed on the 7th of Dec

Try turning all the other rads off apart from the dodgy one.

It may be an airlock and doing this will force everything round this one rad. Worth a try first as with a new system it won't be sludge etc.

Let me know how you get on

Carl

Nothing. The pipe to the numbered valve is hot, is hot to the valve and at the coupling just past it heading into the rad, but the rad is bone cold.

Check that the lockshield valve (valve at opposite end to TRV) is open. Failing that get the installers back.

im assuming the lock valve is the one without the numbered dial on it? covered by a small plastic cap?

if so which direction do i turn it to put it on?

Anti-clockwise.

You may need to remove the rad valve cap and manually turn the valve spindle with an adjustable spanner (or similar). Start with a 1/4 turn only.

Fixed! It was that lock valve. Kids must have turned it when they thought I meant for them to turn the numbers down. I put the heat back on and it went hot straight away, funny thing is, now the entire house (downstairs) seems warmer now that that rad is going.
