Hi guys,

I will be removing a radiator from the kitchen of the house I've just bought. Both pipes run in to the garage. I don't want to have to drain the system as this is the first time working on any heating system.. Can I freeze the existing 8MM microbore pipes cut and rejoin new 8mm microbore using two compression joints or would it be best to upgrade to 10mm/15mm and use a converter from 8mm to 10mm/15mm?

Thanks!

Depends how much work you intend doing. If it's a quick job, you may get away with freezing the pipes. However, unless you have professional freezing equpiment, cutting and replacing pipes and rads will take too long.

Best to drain down, and take it as an opportunity to flush your system and make sure it has the correct concentration of corrosion inhibitor. You'll learn a new skill too!

If the 8mm does the job, stay with it.
