I've stripped the render off one of the walls of my house and found some of the red bricks quite damaged and crumbly. I'm planning to remove the worst ones and put new one in as I don't want to out new render on a surface that's not sound. The bricks my house is built with measure 9" L 4 1/4' deep 3' high. I'm having trouble sourcing these, any ideas??

carefully remove them , turn em round and re-cement
Not a good idea. These turned bricks often deteriorate as they are inherently bad.

In fact, it seems as though the wall may have been rendered as a result of poor brickwork in the first place.

Bad Karma.

But if its rendered, then the brick wont deteriorate

Or just put a normal brick in. It's not as it you will notice the difference

(cue some smartarse mentioning pattern staining of the joints)
