They're all carp. It's impossible to offer a proper insurance service for the money they charge. Read the SMALL print...many types of fault won't even be covered by the policy. Due to the seasonal nature of this business (it goes mad in the Winter) most insurance companies will prioritise work so you can be waiting weeks for a repair...again, read the SMALL print. Many "engineers" that work for insurance companies (especially the newer ones on the scene) are completely useless. Often new entrants and desperate for income, they will settle for abysmal salaries and working conditions. Parts changers with no knowledge.

In nearly every case you are better off putting your money into a seperate "boiler fund account" and using a locally recommended engineer. Remember to cost in all your wasted time taking days of work whilst these idiots have repeated goes at fixing your heating.

British Gas are a total lottery...they have some excellent engineers but also a whole load of dross.

But they do look after your world

•No limit on the number of claims you can make
•Your boiler is covered for call-out, parts & labour
•No bills or claims forms - just sign to say that you are satisfied
•Next day service•All parts carried to ensure repair on the spot when possible
•Your boiler insured with us for £140 per year plus VAT
•This includes a full service and all parts and labour
•Priority service for contract customers

Thats cheaper than British Gas but I wonder why its always the "next" day.

Sure about that one.....ALL parts carried...what kind of lorry are they driving to customers!!!!! Unless they are only taking on a couple of boilers onto contract they MAY have all parts carrried, otherwise that won't be true eh?

A couple of facts about heating insurance that you are probably not aware of.

Most of those companies, and certainly including BG and AA, use subbies; there is no guarantee that you actually get a BG engineer.

There is NO next day repair guarantee, only AN ATTEMPT to see you within 24 hours. I have heard of people this winter who were kept waiting for more than a week before the first attempt was made ( often without success ).

Most, if not all, of these companies are happy to take your money for years, and when you need them, they tell you the boiler can not be repaired.

From all we have heard in the industry grape vine, the average quality of AA “engineers” is rather questionable. That does not mean all BG staff are stars. They do have some very good ones, but also a whole lot of complete clowns; it's a total lottery.

Don't take my word for it, read your policy carefully.

There is also a disincentive it would seem because of the number of visits they are required to make each day.

So if the engineer decides it needs a new pump and he has one with him he will often not fit it that day so that it can be slotted into his schedule the next. He will then have time to complete all his visits on that day.

One can understand the reason the management require a certain number of visits but its always quicker and certainly gets better customer reaction to complete the job on the first visit. Their system does not encourage that.
