A Crushing Issue

not really a waste, they will probably be turned into metal for..........cars.

think about it, better safe than sued

it just makes me cross - for a few seconds.... and then like.... why do i bother trying to take the tape off, or the huge staples out of cardoard boxes before i recycle them? or why do i rinse my bottles, and even take the labels off of my cans?

my hours worth of effort must be hugely negated a thousandfold every minute by huge companies around the world... pumping gallons of poison into waterways, or wasting things on an unimaginable scle !!

Yes, exactly .... why do you bother?

IMO, it only makes the person doing it feel good, but it has no impact at all on the causes you think you are helping

We cannot stop others elsewhere in the world wasting resources. But surely if we recycle here in the UK, that will stop more & more re-useable materials ending up in holes in the ground?

Our ground, at that!

We are doing our bit ....

Combined Recycling & Composting Rates 2002-07 BANES :-
23.40%
26.12%
28.81%
31.67%
36.97%
39.83%

Here in Stockport we're doing rather well. Apart from plastics which is a bit of a fiasco.

Where I live is a rather smart village & we have just been chosen as the pilot area for paper & card recycling, via blue wheelie bins.

Previously, we could recycle only paper. No card, envelopes, yellow pages, drinks cartons etc...

Now we can recycle anything that vaguely resembles what came off a tree.

But plastics....Our tips have skips for "PLASTIC BOTTLES ONLY". Doesn't seem to matter that plastic bottles can be made out of at least three of the following types of plastic material.

Polypropylene (PP)

Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

Polystyrene (PS)

Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC)

Polyethylene Terepthalate (PET)

Anything that is not a bottle is rejected. Dumb or what?

Of all the materials we need to keep out of the ground, wouldn't you put plastics at the top of the list? Yet that is what fills the majority of my bin liners these days. Utter madness.
