Hi all

I've got no light in the cupboard under the stairs but I do have a mains socket.

Currently there's a little lamp in there that's plugged into the mains and I have to switch it on from the base every time I need some light.

I'd like to fit one of these to the wall:

and then put a normal light switch on the wall and run it all to a normal 3 pin plug that I can plug into the mains.

Is this feasible, what do I need to buy and how do I connect it all?

Cheers

Greg

Follow the simple lighting circuits in the wiki but substitute the mains or CU with your supply from the socket and plugtop.

It's feasible, although is it really worth the effort over just using the switch on the socket?

If you must have a separate light switch, you'll need a 3A fused plugtop with flex to the light switch. Another flex should run to the lampholder. Both incoming and outgoing neutral (and earth, if required by the switch or fitting) should be connected together in their own terminal blocks. 5A terminal strip is suitable for this. The live conductors should go through the switch, L1 and COM.

I prefer to use door switches (similar to a fridge). Always goes down well.

Gotcha, worked it out.

Ok, if I decided to ditch the plug could I use an unswitched FCU?

Yes. Or even a switched FCU and ditch the light switch altogether, assuming it could be mounted in a suitable location.
