I need to install a new gate in quite a wide opening.

The opening is 1600mm wide so I'm thinking of constructing the frame like my drawing, then adding the gate and side panel later.

Does this look like a good idea?

I'm not sure about the cross beam but I don't want the middle post to start twisting and moving leading to an ill fitting gate later on.

Any help appreciated.

If you want to retain your original idea, horizontal noggins at the bottom and halfway will help the centre post from moving.
Any bottom frame member in contact with ground concrete will need good weather protection, of course.
