Tories ponder English-only voting

Only England constituency MPs could be allowed to vote on English matters under plans considered by the Tories.

And about time to, why the hell should their MPs be allowed to vote on English matters, when English and Welsh MPs are not allowed to vote on Scottish matters.
In fact why don't we go one step further and let them have their independence.

Salmond to set out referendum plans
28/10/2007 12:32
Scottish First Minister and SNP leader Alex Salmond insisted full independence for his country was a "fair and equitable" solution that had growing support in England.

So who wants to deny them their independence

Happy either way, give them their independence of stop them voting on English issues.

Not likely to happen whilst the current shower are in power though ... If you discount Scottish seats they wouldn't have a majority

thing is, does anyone believe anything any politician has ever said anyway?

There sould be a regular (quarterly) referendum, where politicians actually ask us what we want.

And what the hell is Brown doing there? who voted for him?

And before half of you kick off... my questions are kind of rhetorical...

As a Scot I totally agree with you since you recognize, that the independence or otherwise of Scotland is for the English to decide.

In my opinion the decision on independence should be left to the scottish voters, with the proviso that if they vote against it they should be subject to the same taxes, nhs charges, university fees, etc, as the rest of united kingdom.
At the moment they have the best of both worlds.

the scots should have no say at all, the best example is football, we support our ginger cousins when they are playing, but those guys actually go out and buy the opposing shirts as they are so bitter and twisted against us. its not our fault they are crap.

so in my opinion let them sort their own mess out and let us sort out ours, badly.

So whose choice is it yours or ours?

True of the few but not of the most!

I had to read the question twice
"Sottish MPs should not be allowed to vote on English and Welsh matters"

so "for" means the Scots Westminster MPs should not be allowed to vote on England-only matters

I'm surprised to see that 33% of respondents have voted against, and think that Scots MPs should be allowed to vote on England-only or Wales-only matters. I wonder if the same people think that English or Welsh MPs should be allowed to vote on Scotland-only matters?

I thought I made it clear that it should be up to the Scottish electorate.
God your an argumentative race,

Yes it could have been worded much better,
The motion was that those in favour would not allow Scottish MPs to vote on English matters.
Those against would allow them to vote on English matters.
Re whether English or Welsh MPs should vote on Scotland only matters is academic, because at this moment in time they cannot.
I personally believe that if the Scots can vote on English/Welsh matters our MPs should vote on Scottish only matters.

That's not fair. Why should the English not be allowed to decide if they want to be independent of the Scots?

We might also be able to come to an agreement with the Shetlanders, who have a lot of oil that the Scots seem to want to grab. We could let them have holiday homes in the sunny South.

No you miss the point, if the Scots get their way then us northeners can tell you southerners to s*d off.
That way you will have about 3 million civil servants to support yourselves.

Not clear at all Anobium. You said "WE should let them have their independence" followed by "the decision on independence should be left to the Scottish voters". I am not being argumentative, but it would appear from what you say, that the independence decision by the Scottish voters is itself dependent on the permission of the English people to have that vote.
