Can anyone advise how close to the wall you can knock back the board and have a good fixing i.e. what gap will there be behind.

It has been recommended I use thermal boards to increase insulation but I am worried about the loss of "inches" in the room, I think the minimum board thickness is 39.5mm.

Advice much appreciated.

Hi Masona,

This is for the inside of my garage conversion.

It was building control that recommended upgrading the insulation.

The walls are constructed of two brick leafs with a 2" (uninsulated) cavity.

Cheers.

Sometime the building control get on my nerves, that the whole idea of a cavity wall.

You will properly get away with 25mm batten and use 25mm Polyethylene foam sheet in between the batten then plasterboard.

Or if you want to save room sizes then perhaps you could have Cavity Wall Insulation instead.
