ABS warning light

I have an old (2004) Mondeo, and a couple of days ago the ABS warning light came on. My first thought was one of the wheel sensing leads had fallen off, but next time I used the car it didn't happen, since then it's been on and off a few times.
It might be one of the connector fittings on a hub loose, I had that once on a new hub. I'll check it when it stops raining, but grateful for any comments.

Have a good look at the reluctor rings on the front driveshafts....excess corrosion can cause them to drop off occasionally
Failing that, its the wheel sensors (hopefully) or the ABS unit itself at fault.
