Moved into a house with this alarm over a year ago, but haven't touched the system at all.

I need to remove the PA button in the bedroom, as we are having the walls plastered. Read up a bit on how to do this, linking the PA terminals etc, but a bit worried about triggering the alarm in the process. Attempted to put alarm into engineering mode, but some of the buttons (including the '9') are unresponsive when pressed (other buttons on the keypad work fine). This means I can't enter the user code or engineering code completely.

What should I do here to avoid the whole system going off if I open up the main panel? I read about the tamper alarm causing internal sounder only when in Day mode, but will this sounder go off when I close the panel again? If I need to enter the user code to turn any sounders off, I'm not sure I can do that.

Ideally I will get rid of the system in the next few months, but need a short fix for now.

If you can't use user or engineer code correctly, then option is to do a total power down.
If you are removing system this would be your best option.
