ACER ASPIRE LAPTOP PROBLEMS. Blank screen/no noise

My Daughter has an Acer Aspire laptop. On powering up, the lights come on, but no noise & a blank, black screen. First impressions from a guy at work are that it's probably fried & beyond economic repair.
Any comments/similar experiences ?

Has your daughter dropped it recently? perhaps a connectors come loose?

Could have dislodged the cpu, which wouldn't result in a post beep, but would not go any further than a blank screen.
Could have a damaged invertor on the video for the screen.
Take it to a local shop and get an estimate.

What model is it?

I know that the AspireOne has an issue exactly like this and you have to do a bios update from a USB pendrive, and then it will boot normally
