Is it possible/ok to add an extra cold water cistern alongside the cold water section of a fortic cylinder ..thus increasing the storage capacity to allow for a shower pump?

In theory it could be done, would require that the additional cistern was the same depth and fixed at the same height as the existing cold water section, with an additional pipe connecting the two together.

In reality - buy a new cylinder and cistern, or change to unvented so no pump required.

never really thought about what you are suggesting, couldnt say yes or no as I havent a clue, interesting though so please let us know the outcome

Your Fortic cylinder will be very inefficient compared to a new cylinder, and is probably filled with limescale by now. Changing for a new cylinder would be beneficial, but if your system is on gravity hot water, you will need to convert to fully pumped as well.

Or just add an independent cold cistern dedicated for the shower pump?
no that wouldnt work as the Fortic would still be feeding the Hot so you would run out of hot water very quickly
