Im in the final stages of buying a house which has an extension on the rear. This has no planning permission or building regs, although the surveyor says its been built to a good standard, probably to the 1980's regs.

I want to add an extension (utility room) to this, but I was just wondering if the 1980s part would need to be knocked down, or brought up to modern building regs as the part we are connecting to has no regs?
Please see attached picture.
thanks for any help

There will be no problem with your existing extension so far as the council is concerned - but you will need to make a Building Regs application for the utility.
