Adding another light in loft

I have a light in the loft using a simple batten holder. It has live and neutral and an unused earth (it's a plastic fitting). The live is switched and connected using 1.5mm cable from the upstairs lighting circuit.

I want to add another light at the other end of the loft. I bought another batten holder and wired live->live, neutral->neutral and earth->earth. However, when I switch it back on both lights flicker constantly on and off.

I've obviously done something stupid, should I be able to do what I am trying?
