Just to set the scene... I have a detached double garage which is fed power via a 13A fused spur from the ground floor ring of the house. This limits the future potential use of the garage and any other ideas I have which require power.

I would like to add power to the garage directly from either the main isolator which is located on the front of the house, or the main consumer unit which is located on the side of the house. I have attached an image to help, the consumer unit is where the black circle is.

Can SWA be ran down the wall and along the gravel edging to the garage?

Any other thoughts welcome.

Wow. What a drive. Did you paint it just for the picture?

No, you will have to dig a trench from the house under the circle to the right hand garage. :)

Yes, you can do what you propose.

Ha, funnily enough it had just been relaid.. which was my original reason for the photo.

I can’t bear the thought of needing to dig anything up atm.

So are there any regs as to how SWA would need to be laid, at the end of the house it can go deeper under the path and then up into the garage.

It takes a lot to blow a 13a fuse.

What do you plan to use in the garage?
There is already a tumble dryer and fridge, which use the only 2 sockets, but I’d like to increase the sockets to around 8, with the potential use of power tools and heating.
I also want to provision for a seating area/summer house with lighting and heating which would be behind the garage.

You didn't think it necessary to quote this bit as well
Unless you have decided to start gratuitously arguing with yourself, to what did "Yes, you can do what you propose" refer given that you had already said "No, you will have to dig a trench from the house under the circle to the right hand garage"?

Don't they have room for a tumble dryer in new houses ?

You want to heat your summer house? Oi! Ban, wake up

I'm a little surprised that no one has yet asked about the existing circuit.

What size is the cable? How is it run? Where is the FCU?

I'm finding it is often 4mm² and/or run in a buried duct in recent builds.
